Hand drawn officially licensed Mega Man Guide!

If you are into Kickstarter and helping great books get made jump onto this link and donate please I’d love to see Spot Color printing on the cover or extra art cards! The book was painstakingly given official license status from no other than CAPCOM the studio behind Mega/Rockman. All hand drawn it’s looking great. The book is called Hand-Drawn Game Guides: Mega Man.

My pledge level is very high and I got in on the second-highest tier before it filled up in about 15 min! The demand is high for this and as a HUGE fan of the Blue Bomber, I gotta advertise this because well I want it to be the best book it can be! They have surpassed their original goal by I think it’s over 50k enabling them to 1. Impress CAPCOM, 2. Possibly get them to create more for all of the Mega/Rockman games, 3. Higher-end printing!

That’s all folks

A look at The Unofficial GBA Pixel Book

Picked up this book (see this link for more movies and still images of this book than I provide) a bit ago and have been going through it from time to time. I was hoping when I bought it for better games to be included but I suppose being unofficial they can probably only show some A-list and B-list games yet it does have a huge Pokemon section. So who knows?

Being a lover of pixel art my entire life even while I was an art director this book keeps my attention every time I pick it up. It’s a rather large book at 300 pages. The book is published by my favorite coffee table book company for video games Bitmap Books out of London. It’s interesting reading how some of the graphics came to be and the workload around them. I would if it wasn’t already on their site list some of the games included here in my review of the book. Also while I can go on and on about how I enjoyed the book. Not my favorite though from Bitmap but is still good to throw on the shelf and take out now and again for a quick second-read book.

Bitmap books are best purchased directly from them as you can get pre-orders in and their shipping prices are very fair considering they are coming from overseas. When you get the book the presentation after you open the cardboard box is amazing. It’s wrapped in thin paper with their logo and some other shapes on it. You can rip it open like a present someone gave you! Below are some of the shots of some of the pages in the book but as I said above go to their site for a much better experience of what the book is and how it’s laid out. LOTS of pictures even a quick little movie of the book cover and pages flipping.

What a steal!

So Fandango/Vudu streaming service where you buy or rent movies had this set on sale Called Bugs Bunny 80th Anniversary Collection: A Wild Hare. WHAT A VALUE! 60 cartoons from the 40’s-60’s then there’s one recent one. The quality is pretty good IMO for cartoons this old. We see Elmer with his shotgun going nuts on Bugs, Bugs smoking a cigar, and the evolution of the character’s style/voice/attitude.

By today’s standards these cartoons would not have even been drawn by hand let alone have the content that you see in some of the episodes. It’s good to see the cartoons I grew up with still being aired in the 80s! Next thing ya know the 90’s roll around and everything has to be P freaking C and cartoons like these get locked up and tossed off the air for crap like iCarly or some other real-life kids show. However, in place of these, we did get some great shows like Animaniacs and the Disney Afternoon!

This set is well worth it to any Bugs / WB lover! For $19.99 ya get 60 episodes all going from Mar. 2 1940 up to a few in the 1960’s and only one that’s modern as of 1997 which is good but shouldn’t even be there given the fact these are the classics! Check out my screencaps below!

Sesame Street Classics!!!

So I have been searching for the video of the little guy in the glass that moves around called the Teeny Superhero Guy! I found it finally on YouTube along with the pinball number counter! Take a trip with me down memory lane!

Here’s the ultra-cool pinball counter!

Do you remember these? They ran in the very very early 80’s and probably in the late ultra late 70’s. I just remember when they came on and I don’t know how I remember these but I’d stop whatever Star Wars toys or Hot Wheels I was playing with in my tracks to watch!

Book Review: MM25: Mega Man & Mega Man X Official Complete Works

25 Years!

In honor of Mega Man Month today, I’ll be giving a short review of the art book MM25: Mega Man & Mega Man X Official Complete Works (ISBN: 978-1926778860). This 432-page monolith covers every aspect of Mega Man artwork as of 2013.

The book contains AWESOME original illustrations of the robot masters, enemies, and Mega Man, and pals! Interviews with the original concept artists talk about the history and creation of some of the imagery that went from page to screen.

While this book is VERY expensive now as it’s been out of print I was fortunate to pick this up on Mercari for about $35 bucks after I negotiated with the seller. So it can be found if you keep looking! The illustrations are SUPER COLORFUL and a joy to behold.

The book follows the format of a game cover (no promo logos on it like NES or Famicom logos), then the robot masters and Mega Man, followed by the enemies and elements of each level. There are collages along with some artist notes along the side!

All in all, if you are a Blue Bomber fan you must have this book! It’s great to see the evolution from Mega Man 1 / concept art to Mega Man X all-in-one large coffee table book.

I’ve taken some pics and put together a gallery for you below:
